Marcel Breuer was a Hungarian-born modernist, architect, and furniture designer.
This is one of his most iconic designs, the S 64 consisting of a cantilevered tubular steel frame, black lacquered wood and material upholstery and this original piece was manufactured by Thonet and labelled to this effect.
The chair has its origins in the late 1920s, at a time when Marcel Breuer designed grand interiors and designed countless furniture. The production started in 1930.
