An Ingo Maurer Uchiwa Hana Chandelier by Ingo Maurer for M design, Germany, 1970s
A wonderful and rare large six fan ‘Uchiwa Hana’ bamboo and Japanese rice paper Chandelier by Ingo Maurer for M design, Germany, 1970s.
Ingo Maurer’s interest in paper for lampshades was linked with his interest in Japan. From 1973-1975 he produced various lamps from traditional Japanese fans.
Uchiwa lamps were handmade using the bamboo and Japanese rice paper.
The fixture is adjustable in height and when lit emits a warm hue. There is ample string to adjust height, it has never been shortened - the pendant can have a drop of over 1.5m if desired.
Overall in very good condition, some small areas of scorching where old fashioned bulbs once touched the paper but this is only visible when dismantling, there is one small tear in one fan, illustrated in photos. Uchiwa pendants are very rarely found in such condition due to their fragility, in summary, light signs of wear and only minor losses and imperfections.
