Afra & Tobia Scarpa "Soriana" two-seat sofa for Cassina, 1969, Italy
Description
An Afra & Tobia Scarpa "Soriana" two-seater sofa manufactured by Cassina in Italy and designed in 1969.
A unique design that after 50 years is hugely in-demand by interior designers and private individuals and features in countless styling shoots. The ‘Soriana’ series won the Compasso d’Oro prize in 1970 and the design enjoyed huge success over the next decade. The concept behind the Soriana was a bundle of fabric or leather retained in a chrome-plated metal frame that aims to not only look comfortable but also be very comfortable.
This piece features its original black chunky cord fabric. The "Cassina" manufacturer's label is retained on the underside.
The condition of this piece is very good for its age with only slight wear and odd imperfections/small marks which are well within what is commensurate. Please do expect a beautiful original example with minor and light signs of use. Originally the piece may have been a deeper shade of black which has lightened slightly over the past half-century.
